Liposuction
Liposuction meaning
Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure that includes sucking fat from various parts of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, chest, back, calves, ankles, buttocks, upper arms, and neck, allowing not just fat removal but also contouring of these areas.
Liposuction is a surgical technique that is more of an art than a science. It is a skill acquired through clinical experience that includes the actual application of scientific information with accuracy and artistry. It provides as much happiness and delight to the person through it as it does to the surgeon doing the terrifying work of delivering that final result.
It is also called lipo, lipoplasty, or body contouring. The procedure uses a suction technique to remove the fat from specific parts of the body such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, or neck.
Liposuction has evolved over the last 15 years with the introduction of the tumescent and super-wet techniques, ultrasonic assisted liposuction, power assisted liposuction and laser lipolysis. These advances have made possible the removal of larger volumes of fat with negligible blood loss and relatively trifling complications.
Lately, it has become a popular cosmetic surgery option for people who want to lose weight easily. However, it is not typically considered an overall weight-loss method or weight-loss alternative because you are more likely to lose weight through diet, exercise and bariatric procedures, such as gastric bypass than you would lose from liposuction.
People usually get a liposuction procedure to improve the shape of their bodies and to remove excess fat from specific areas. They try liposuction when diet and exercise can’t do the job.
The most often used definition of ‘large volume liposuction’ The term LVL refers to either the overall amount of fat removed during the surgery or the total volume removed during the procedure (fat plus wetting solution). Because many of the problems associated with big volume liposuction are connected to fluid shifts and fluid balance, categorizing the surgery as large volume based on total volume taken from the patient, including fat, wetting solution, and blood, is preferable.
Clinically, large volume liposuction refers to the removal of more than 5 liters of total volume from the patient. Gilliland et al. have properly separated and classified them as:
- Large Volume Liposuction (LVL) is an aspirate of 5000 ml
- Mega-volume liposuction as an 8000 ml aspirate
- Giganto-volume liposuction as an aspirate of 12,000 ml
Arm Liposuction
Arm liposuction can be performed on men and women who are in good health but struggle with localized fat deposits in their upper arms. Both arms are addressed during your arm liposuction procedure, and it’s only done on the upper arms, not the forearms. Houston Liposuction Center surgeons specialize in removing the optimal amount of fat to ensure fat reduction with natural-looking results, as the majority of women naturally have a small layer of fat on the arms that should remain preserved.
The procedure begins with a local anesthetic being administered to the treatment area so the area is numb but you remain awake. A few tiny incisions are made for the cannula to pass through and liquefy and suction the fat. Resulting scars, if any, are very small and fade with time. Very often, arm liposuction is paired with back liposuction to slim the upper half of the body and make it proportional.
Back Liposuction
The back is considered 2 areas: the upper back and middle back. The lower portion of the back is a separate area called the waist/love handles. Often, patients choose to address the three areas together, and on most occasions the arms are done as well, slimming the entire upper half of your body to maintain ideal proportions.
Back liposuction starts with the treatment area being appropriately numbed since you are awake during the procedure; there is no need for general anesthesia which can increase risks. A thin tube called a cannula is inserted into tiny incisions to suction the fat. The whole procedure takes between 1-2 hours depending on the extent of the individual case.
Hip Liposuction
The hips are one of the most difficult areas of the body to lose weight, and many women tend to retain excess fat in this area. This can often make clothing look awkward and ill fitting, causing low self-esteem.
Hip liposuction provides a very effective solution, helping patients to lose a significant amount of inches and achieve beautifully natural-looking results. The hips respond very well to liposuction, and are in fact one of the most successful areas when it comes to showing visible improvement after the procedure.
WHY CHOOSE HIP LIPOSUCTION?
The hips can often be cruel. In many women, they can cause the body to take on a “square” or squatty look, making it appear as though the woman has no waist. They can also often hang over the top of pants in an unattractive way—the “muffin top” you often hear about.
However, when hips are contoured properly, they provide a feminine figure, enhancing the buttocks and achieving an overall more attractive appearance.
Diet and exercise will help, but even if an individual works hard and eats well, fat around the hips can often be incredibly stubborn and difficult to get rid of.
Liposuction is a fantastic option because it has the ability to remove this fat and create a shape that’s more proportional with the rest of the patient’s body.
HIP LIPOSUCTION CANDIDATES
f you’re interested in a Richmond hip liposuction treatment, you may be an ideal candidate. The best candidates for hip liposuction are those who are near their ideal weight, but who are having difficulty getting rid of the excess fat around their hips.
Those who are considering hip liposuction should understand that it is not a substitute for diet and exercise, nor is it a cure for cellulite. Maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise are required to help keep liposuction results at their optimal appearance.
Good candidates for hip liposuction are those who:
- Are near their goal weight but have excess fat in their hips
- Have good skin elasticity
- Have good physical, mental, and emotional health
- Do not have any active diseases
- Have realistic expectations about what hip liposuction can achieve
Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals.
Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The most common causes of this include:
- Aging
- Heredity
- Pregnancy
- Prior surgery
- Significant fluctuations in weight
What tummy tuck surgery can’t do
A tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program.
Although the results of a tummy tuck are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in your weight. For this reason, individuals who are planning substantial weight loss or women who may be considering future pregnancies would be advised to postpone a tummy tuck.
A tummy tuck cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be removed or somewhat improved if they are located on the areas of excess skin that will be excised.
