Beauty standards change as time passes, and in the modern era, clear and young-looking skin is on the trend–particularly Korean glass skin. With this, Korean skincare and cosmetics products are quickly becoming a craze, and women all around the world are attempting to emulate the bright glow associated with “K-beauty,” with one trend, which has been around since 2016, focusing on the “glass skin” appearance, which refers to a healthy glow. The concept became famous in 2018 when the world finally recognized “the fountain-of-youth-like” appearance of old Korean artists. Not only that, but also normal Korean citizens don’t seem to age! Hence, Koreans are well-known in the aesthetic field because they are known for their youthful appearance despite their old age, and it is seen among many K-pop idols and artists, such as IU (29 years old), Song Hye Kyo (41 years old), and Gong Yoo (43 years old). However, such beauty and youth are hard to attain, especially with varying factors that influence one’s skin condition. Some eminent skin conditions that may pose a problem among Koreans are hyperpigmentation, eyebags, sagging skin, wrinkles, and fine lines. Now that’s a lot of skin conditions to treat!
However, picture one treatment that could peel away all of your skin concerns—hyperpigmentation, acne scars, dullness, and fine lines—to expose a fresh layer of glowing, healthy skin. That is exactly what Dual Fraxel laser does. As a result, the popular procedure has emerged as a viable option for those looking to remove such flaws for a long period, short-term.
The Dual Fraxel Laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin, with small laser columns penetrating deep into your skin to speed up your body’s collagen reconstruction. Furthermore, because the laser only treats a section of the tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, promoting quick recovery. The Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 therapy resurfaces your skin by stimulating the creation of new, healthy skin cells from the inside. It has two lasers with different wavelengths in one device: one that targets pigmentation and sun damage and another that penetrates deeper to treat wrinkles, texture, and acne scars. There is Fraxel Restore, a non-ablative (no open wounds) laser, and Fraxel Repair, which is the most powerful and employs an ablative fractionated carbon dioxide laser for more severe instances. However, the latter has more downtime.
How does it work?
The mechanism is the same regardless of whichever Fraxel laser you use. The laser radiation emitted from the Dual Fraxel Laser device causes microscopic “columns of thermal destruction” in the skin, stimulating the formulation of new, healthy skin cells to replace old, damaged ones. It is a non-ablative treatment that treats pigmentation, wrinkles, acne scars, and pore prominence all at once! Hence, there is an increased skin turnover and collagen creation–the acceleration of the body’s normal mending process. The Fraxel Dual Laser procedure takes roughly about 10-15 minutes to perform by our board-certified dermatologist. Since the treatment offers short-term results, but longer compared to creams and other traditional methods, we highly suggest at least three sessions spaced no more than four weeks apart resting time for optimal results and healing. Specifically, three sessions at most are needed if you want to enhance or even out the skin tone, while three to five sessions are recommended for fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. In addition, skin discoloration can be improved three to four weeks following treatment. Texture improvement is more gradual and may be best judged six months following treatment.
Preparation before the treatment
First, you have to ensure that you have no active acne breakouts, open wounds, and infections on the face, for it can severely influence the outcome of the procedure, which is why a dermatological consultation with our board-certified dermatologist is a must at our clinic. Likewise, the consultation will help us determine if you may or may not have the Dual Fraxel Laser. You are advised to stop using actives, acids, and retinoids on the face for a week before your session. The doctor also advises avoiding consuming alcohol, smoking, and drinking caffeine 24hrs prior to your session. And on the actual day of the session, your face will be numbed with a topical numbing cream to help with any discomfort during the procedure because you may feel a slight burning or tingling sensation throughout. The treatment is close to being painless, but we don’t want our clients to feel any discomfort or pain during the treatment. Thus, we utilize numbing creams. Afterward, a cooling treatment is administered to help with the burning sensation caused by the laser.
How much does it cost?
Individual skin diseases and desired therapeutic goals, as well as geographical location and preferred physician, will all influence treatment price. The pricing may also depend on if you will have other treatments combined with the Dual Fraxel Laser treatments, seeing as all treatment sessions are specially tailored to treat each client’s skin problems, which appear differently. Aftercare procedure
Since the laser treatment involves stinging sensations and resurfacing, we highly advise all patients to use generous amounts of sunscreen throughout the face and neck for optimal sun protection. You may also want to re-apply every two hours and avoid harsh products, such as topical acne prescriptions. With this, you may want to opt for a milder cleanser and moisturizer and keep your skincare routine as simple as possible. In addition, you must follow the doctor’s prescribed [and specific] aftercare procedures to help with the healing process and to achieve the desired results. You may experience micro-peeling, so it is best to avoid peeling and prickling the skin for at least a week, for it will cause further damage.
